Chamoli, the district encompassing Benital, was historically part of the ancient Kedar-Khand region, revered in Hindu scriptures as the abode of Lord Shiva. The area is steeped in mythology and is believed to be the land where sages composed parts of the Vedas and Puranas. Notably, the village of Mana near Badrinath is considered the last Indian village before the Tibetan border and is associated with the legendary Vyasa cave, where sage Vyasa is said to have composed the Mahabharata.
