Positioned at an elevation of approximately 2,744 meters (9,003 feet) above sea level, the temple lies about 17 kilometers from Joshimath, beyond the village of Tapovan, nestled within dense forests along the Dhauliganga River.
Bhavishya Badri is one of the Panch Badri temples, a group of five sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the Garhwal Himalayas. According to Hindu mythology, a prophecy foretells that in the future, when the current Badrinath temple becomes inaccessible due to natural calamities, Lord Vishnu will be worshipped at Bhavishya Badri. This belief is linked to the Narasimha idol in Joshimath, whose gradually withering arm is said to signify the impending shift of the deity's abode.
