October to March is the best time to visit Pantnagar, when the weather is cool and pleasant. Summers (April–June) are warm but manageable, while monsoons (July–September) bring heavy rains that support its lush green agriculture.
By Air: Pantnagar has its own airport (Pantnagar Airport - PGH), offering regular flights from Delhi. It is the closest airport to Nainital and other Kumaon hill stations. By Train: The Pantnagar Railway Station (PBW) connects the town with major cities like Delhi, Lucknow, and Bareilly. Alternatively, Rudrapur City railway station (10 km away) has better connectivity. By Road: Well-connected by national and state highways. Regular buses and taxis operate from Haldwani (30 km), Rudrapur (10 km), and Kathgodam (40 km). Delhi is about 260 km away and takes ~6–7 hours by car or bus.

Pantnagar holds a special place in India’s agricultural history. It rose to prominence with the establishment of G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in 1960—India’s first agricultural university—which was modeled after the land-grant colleges of the U.S. The university was inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and marked a new era in scientific farming and rural development across the country. Named after Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the town quickly became a national symbol of agrarian innovation during the Green Revolution. In the 2000s, Pantnagar witnessed a second wave of transformation with the setting up of a large Integrated Industrial Estate (IIE) under SIIDCUL, attracting top industrial giants like Tata Motors, Nestlé, and Bajaj Auto, reshaping the region's economy and employment landscape.
