Chandernahan Lake Trek is a popular hiking trail in the Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The trek is named after the beautiful Chandernahan or Chandranahan Lake, which is situated at an altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level. The trail is moderately difficult and takes about 3-4 days to complete, covering a distance of around 28 km.
Chandernahan Lake is a high-altitude lake which is located in Rohru tehsil of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh, India at an elevation of about 4,260 m above sea level. It is surrounded by snow for a long time and is the source of the river Pabbar.
Chandernahan Lake unearths on the southeastern slopes of the focal Himalayas. Located in the northwest of Rohru town in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, Chandranahan Lake is not just the tripper's land, rather it has spiritual significance in Rohru. As per the regional belief, it is the birthplace of Devta Shikru Maharaj (God), and followers believe that once every eight years Devta visits the lake for a ritual bath. Local people reckon the lake as a holy home of Goddess Kali, whom they believe is the caretaker of the entire region.
The Chandernahan Lake Trek is a moderate-level trek that can be completed in four days. The Chandernahan Lake trek starts from the village of Jangal Chauki, which is located about 200 km from Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. The trek starts from Jangal Chauki and takes you through dense forests of pine, deodar, and oak trees. As you trek through the forest, you can hear the chirping of birds and the sound of leaves rustling in the wind. The trail is well-marked and easy to follow, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced trekkers.
After trekking for a few hours, you will come across the first campsite at Litham Thach. The campsite is located in a scenic meadow and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. You can set up your tent here and spend the night under the starry sky.
The next day, you will continue trekking toward Chandernahan Lake. The trail takes you through the beautiful meadows of Dev Thach and then ascends toward Chandranahan Lake. As you trek higher, you will be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
After trekking for a few hours, you will finally reach Chandernahan Lake, which is situated at an altitude of 4,100 meters. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and offers a stunning view of the Himalayas. You can spend some time at the lake, soaking in the beauty of the place, before heading back to the campsite.
On the fourth day, you will trek back to Jangal Chauki, from where you can head back to Shimla. The trek ends here, but the memories of the beautiful landscape, the scenic views, and the adventure will stay with you forever.

The best time to do the Chandernahan Lake Trek is from May to October. During this period, the weather is pleasant, with moderate temperatures and clear skies, making it ideal for trekking.
In May and June, the weather is relatively mild, and the surrounding valleys and mountains are covered with lush greenery, making for a picturesque view. July and August are the monsoon months, and although trekking during this period can be challenging due to heavy rainfall and slippery trails, the landscape is breathtakingly beautiful, with waterfalls and streams in full flow.
September and October are the post-monsoon months, and the weather is generally clear and dry, making it an excellent time to trek. The surrounding mountains and valleys are covered with a blanket of autumn colors, making for a stunning view.
It's important to note that the weather in the mountains can be unpredictable, and it's always best to check the weather forecast before embarking on the trek. Additionally, make sure to carry appropriate clothing and gear, including sturdy trekking shoes, rain gear, and warm clothing, as the temperature can drop significantly at higher altitudes.

This adventurous trip begins with our arrival in Shimla from Delhi/ Chandigarh followed by a drive towards Tangnu, Rohru, and then Jhanglik village. The village is rich in heritage and has immense picturesque views. At Jhanglik, we get a brief introduction about the location and it is surroundings and we spend the night at the village after a bonfire and a hearty dinner.

Trek :- 9.9 Kilometer
After freshening up in the morning and having a power-packed breakfast, we begin our trek towards Litham Thach through the mesmerizing meadows of Dayara Thach and Mount Thach with lunch en route. Upon reaching our destination, we familiarize ourselves with the peaks and passes visible from the area before heading on to a bonfire and a hearty dinner for a good night's sleep in the tents arranged for the stay.

Today is the day when we finally move forward towards the seven Glacial Ponds, Chander Nahan Lake. These seven Glacial Ponds are the very source of the Pabbar River. After exploring the lake and its surrounding area, we head back to Litham Thach followed by dinner, bonfire and a night stay at Litham.
Trek and Drive : 150 Km
On our last day, we rise early morning and start our descent from Litham Thach towards Jhanglik with a halt at Simbar Thach for snacks and refreshments Simbar Thach is a beautiful location on the way. After reaching Jhanglik, we make the short 2 km drive towards Tangnu village and finally depart from Tangnu to Shimla in the evening.
