We start our journey from Joshimath, which is well-known as a holy place in Uttarakhand.

The cave is situated at an altitude of around 13,000 feet above sea level and is accessible only during the summer months due to heavy snowfall in the region during the winter season. The trek to the cave is quite challenging, but the stunning views of the surrounding snow-clad mountains and the pristine natural beauty of the region make the journey worth the effort. The Timmersain Mahadev temple is located 700 meters from the main highway, just 1 km before Niti village. The temple is located 82 km from Joshimath.
Legend has it that the Timmersain Mahadev cave was discovered by a group of shepherds who were tending their flocks in the region. They stumbled upon the cave and found a natural Shivling (a phallic symbol that represents Lord Shiva) inside it. Over time, the cave became a place of pilgrimage for devotees of Lord Shiva.

The ideal time to witness the darshan of Baba Barfani, a natural snow Shivling located at Timmarsain Mahadev cave, is from March to April. This is considered to be the most suitable time to catch a glimpse of Baba Barfani. However, during the summer months from May to October, the cave is open for visitors to come and pay their respects.
The Niti Mahadev Yatra Samiti will organize the Baba Barfani yatra for the Timarsain Mahadev Temple, which is scheduled to commence in the first week of March and run until the middle or end of April. The temple remains open till the October end.
Since this cave is situated on the Indo-Tibetan border, individuals from other regions of the country are not permitted without authorization. All pilgrims planning to visit Timmarsain Mahadev Temple must submit the filled application form at the Tourism Office, Joshimath 2 days before their visit. There will be medical check-ups of pilgrims before the yatra to Baba Barfani Timmarsain Mahadev Temple. Only 25 pilgrims are permitted Per day for the Timamrsain Mahadev Temple yatra.
The Mahadev Cave Temple of Baba Barfani Timarsain is located near Niti village, just before the Indo-Tibetan border. While there are no direct modes of transportation to reach this temple, the most convenient way is to take a bus or taxi from Haridwar/Rishikesh to Joshimath, and then hire a taxi to get to Niti village. From there, it is only a 700-meter walk to the temple, which can be reached by taking a path located just 1 km before Niti.

Start early from Joshimath and drive to Niti village (approx. 2 hours). Visit the ancient Nanda Devi Temple, Ganesh Mandir, and explore the beautiful village of Niti. From Niti, trek to Timmersain Mahadev Temple (approximately . 1-2 hours). The trek is a moderate-level trek and offers some stunning views of the Himalayas. Spend the evening at the temple, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and the natural beauty around you. After spending some time here, Back to Niti Village and Stay at a Guest House or Homestay.
Wake up early and witness the sunrise from Niti Village. After breakfast, drive back to Joshimath. On the way back, you can stop at the picturesque villages of Marwari, Ghamshali, and Tapovan and explore their traditional houses and architecture. Reach Joshimath by evening and spend the rest of the day exploring the town.
