Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in the Garhwal Himalayas, believed to have been established during the Treta Yuga. As per the ancient Hindu scripture Kedarkhand (a part of the Skanda Purana), it is one of the five Maheshwar Peeths in the region. It is said that Lord Rama offered 1000 lotus flowers here in devotion to Lord Shiva and, upon finding one missing, offered one of his lotus-like eyes — an act of extreme devotion that moved Shiva to grant him the Sudarshan Chakra. Some local traditions also suggest that Lord Vishnu worshipped here for the same divine weapon. These mythological links make Kamleshwar Temple a pivotal site in the Garhwal spiritual map.
