Gurdwara Reetha Sahib, also known as Reetha Sahib Gurudwara, is a revered Sikh shrine located in the district of Champawat in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for the Sikh community in India and is known for its miraculous water of the sacred pool that is believed to have healing properties.
The history of Gurdwara Reetha Sahib dates back to the time of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of the Sikh religion. As per the legend, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, while on his way to Tibet, stopped at a place near the present-day Gurdwara Reetha Sahib. He sat under a tree to rest and meditate. Soon after, the local villagers approached him, seeking his help to get rid of the demons who would not allow them to take bath in the nearby river.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji blessed the river and asked the villagers to take a bath in the river. As soon as they did, the demons were vanquished. The tree under which Guru Nanak Dev Ji rested is now the site of the Gurdwara Reetha Sahib.
The Gurdwara complex includes a langar hall, a meditation hall, and a holy pond known as Amrit Kund. The Amrit Kund is said to have healing properties and is known to cure skin ailments and other diseases. It is believed that the water of the Amrit Kund is blessed by Guru Nanak Dev Ji and is therefore considered sacred by the Sikh community.
The Gurdwara also houses a sacred tree that is said to be the same tree under which Guru Nanak Dev Ji rested. The tree has been preserved and is still thriving. Pilgrims tie small pieces of cloth or threads to its branches as a mark of their prayers and wishes.
Apart from its spiritual significance, Gurdwara Reetha Sahib is also known for its beautiful location. It is located amidst the beautiful Himalayan ranges and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys.
Every year, on the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's birthday, a large gathering is held at the Gurdwara. Pilgrims from all over India and abroad visit the Gurdwara to pay their respects and seek blessings.
In conclusion, Gurdwara Reetha Sahib is not only a sacred site for the Sikh community but also a place of great historical and cultural significance. It is a testament to the legacy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the profound impact he had on the people of India. The Gurdwara continues to attract pilgrims from all over the world, who come to seek solace and spiritual guidance at this holy site.
