The Chopta Tungnath trek starts from Chopta, which is a small village located at an altitude of 8,790 feet (2,679 meters) above sea level, and ends at Tungnath, which is the highest Shiva temple in the world. The distance between Chopta and Tungnath is around 4 kilometers, and it takes approximately 3-4 hours to reach the temple. The trek is not very difficult, but it is a bit steep towards the end, and the altitude can cause altitude sickness for some, so it is advisable to take it slow and steady. Take a Public Bus/traveler or Private Vehicle from Rishikesh Bus Station. Start your beautiful hill journey for Ukhimath or direct Chopta. In your way first, the popular place will be Devprayag; here is the holy confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers and the famous Raghunath temple. Take some pictures of this place and carry on the route. The next place will be Srinagar, take a few rests and take your lunch here. On the forward way, you will see Dhari Devi temple, Rudraprayag, Augustmuni, and another hill town.
Once you reach Ukhimath you can stay overnight in a local guesthouse/ homestay. If you still have the energy to travel a little more, then hire a local vehicle for Chopta. Your night stay will be at our camp-sides. Our campsite is a perfect place to enjoy the real beauty of nature. You will be camping in the middle of the verdant clearing and chirping birds. Start your day with a beautiful morning and the chirping of birds. Get ready, a hot and delicious breakfast is waiting for you, and then be ready for the trek Tungnath-Chandra Shila. It is a 4 km trek from Chopta market. you will be passing through the Rhododendron forest and vast grasslands; from here you will be able to see the entire Kedar Ghati range covered with snow. Locals have set up their shops and food stalls throughout the way where you get all the local cuisines and fresh juices to energize you while reaching the top. Enjoying the road you will reach Tungnath Temple . First, go to the temple and get the darshan and blessings of Mahadev; after spending some time in the temple, we will be ready to move to Chandrshila top which is a 1 km trek from the temple.
After all sides see and take pictures we will trek downward for the Chopta market. The vehicle will be ready there to take you to Sari village. your today night stay will be at Sari village camp side . Enjoy the music and bone fire at the campsite. Take the delicious dinner and rest for today.
Get up early morning with Tea and a delicious breakfast at Sari village camps and get ready for the next destination The Deoria lake, Sari village is the starting point of the 2.5 km trek to Deoria Tal. The slowly uphill trail through the forests of rhododendron, alpine, and oak trees will end up at Deoria Tal. The path is well and it’s an easy trek. It just takes one and a half hours to reach Deoria Tal from Sari Village.
Deoria Tal is a beautiful lake that is situated at an elevation of 2,438 meters above sea level with picture perfect location and background of the massive Chaukhamba peaks.
